MASTER YOUR CRAFT

 
Practice makes perfect.
 
Well…Not really.
 
the reality is…
 
It’s impossible to be pefect.
 
For this reason,
 
the best athletes practice daily,
 
and the best performers rehearse constantly.
 
The more you do something,
 
the better you get at it.
 
A few days ago, my wife and I went to UCLA to get our taxes done for FREE;
 
A service provided by students pursuing their accounting degree.
 
Well, there was a girl there who had no clue what she was doing.
 
She had to ask her supervisor questions after every action she did.
 
Even though this college student took twice as long as her colleagues,
 
I didn’t mind waiting because I could see the determination in her eyes to master taxes.
 
She was going to ask as many questions as possible,
 
and do it over and over… until she got it right.
 
My friends, 
 
that is the SAME kind of determination YOU must possess,

in order to MASTER your craft.
  
If you’re an athelete,
 
you need to be the first one to practice,

and the last one to leave–practice more than the next man!
 
If you’re a designer,
 
continue sewing patterns until you have mastered it,
 
and then find newer patterns to master!
 
You can always make yourself BETTER with a little more practice.
 
Take the time to master your craft,
 
and get as close to perfection,
 
as humanly possible.

GOOD INTENTIONS

 
We live in a dog-eat-dog world.
 
Everyone is out to benefit themselves.
 
Many of us operate with the “ME mentality”.
 
“Um… I can do that for you, but what’s in it for ME?”
 
“Yeah, how exactly does that help ME in the end?”
 
We get so caught up in ourselves,
 
and how WE can gain,
 
that we can sometimes lose focus of doing things with good intentions.
 
As you go through life,
 
Don’t be so quick to look for the SELFISH intention,
 
But, look for the GOOD intention.
 
I know this female radio host,
 
who has dedicated her life to helping young women feel confident about themselves.
 
She developed an organization that has helped high school girls go to prom,
 
and ANOTHER organization

that has given less fortunate women their very first makeover.
 
She has set forth to change the lives of young women in Los Angeles.
 
She is a prime example of someone who acts with good intention.
 
My friend,
 
live your life with the intention to help someone.
 
With the intention to make a difference.
 
Don’t be concerned with how YOU can profit…
 
‘Cause, I tell you this…
 
When you INTEND to help others…
 
Your benefit will end up being more than you ever wanted!

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE JOURNEY

Everyone has their own picture of their American dream.
 
Maybe it’s the big house and the picket fence,
 
maybe two cars,
 
a beautiful spouse,
 
three kids and a dog.
 
Or the dream job that you look forward to going to EVERYDAY.
 
But,
 
many of us lose site of the dream
 
when it doesn’t happen when we want it to happen.
 
“I’ve been looking for a husband for three years… I guess it’s not gonna happen.”
 
“I’m gonna give myself five years to achieve my dream… if not, I’ll find something else.”
 
No.
 
You gotta remember…
 
life is not about the destination,
 
it is about the journey.
 
It is the obstacles you face,
 
the hard times you fight through
 
that make your destination worth while.
 
I have a friend who dreamed of being a television news reporter.
 
He was turned down by 80 different news stations.
 
He had many sad and discouraging days.
 
He applied to one more news station and was hired immediately.
 
He told me “it was his hard days that has helped him appreciate his fulfilled dream.”
 
My friends,
 
not all dreams come true over night.
 
Sometimes…you have to be patient.
 
But, while you’re waiting…
 
Keep working hard,
 
and remember to enjoy the process.
 
Because it’s all part of your journey to your destination.

RUN AWAY FROM TROUBLE
 

Some people just have a real GIFT for finding trouble.
 
they never look for it,
 
but somehow trouble always seems to find them.
 
they get get accused for something they didn’t do,
 
They get caught talking in class, and get sent to detention.
 
Trouble manages to find them…EVERYTIME!
 
Then there are those who LOOK for trouble,
 
and make trouble part of their life.
 
They go out LOOKING to steal something…
 
Looking to fight someone…
 
Looking for some action to shake up their day.
 
But, when it comes to trouble,
 
there is always a consequence.
 
My brother was a gang member growing up.
 
He was the nicest and greatest big brother anyone could ever have–
 
he always took care of me.
 
But, when he was on the streets,
 
He had a thing for trouble.
 
He got caught doing a crime and had to serve six years in jail.
 
Trouble came with a price.
 
You won’t think it will happen to you…
 
But, eventually, your number will be called…

and YOU will have to pay the consequences.
 
My friend,
 
You are a good person.
 
There is no reason to walk towards potential problems in your life.
 
When trouble is heading your way…RUN!!!
 
When that married guy tries to flirt with you…
 
get out of the room! 
 
When your friends tell you they wanna drive around and find some trouble…
 
Make up an excuse and get away from them.
 
YOU, my friend,
 
have a future ahead of you.
 
Don’t ruin it… with risky behavior.
